“Be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid of them. Don’t be terrified because of them. The Lord your God will go with you. He will never leave you. He’ll never desert you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIRV)
PTL! Here we are with a great start back to school! Thank you to the many parents who attended our parent orientation nights last week. I am excited about the year ahead and I hope you are too!
PTL! The 7/8th graders have already had an adventurous outing last Friday after school. They had a great time together, building relationship and trust, as they experienced rock climbing and then had a cookout at the Yaak River Falls. A great big thank you goes to Mr. Ken Miller and Mrs. Kehn’s husband, Bob Kehn, for sharing their skills with us!

Chapel Have you heard the story of Tupu? Ask your child if they remember the lesson on courage that we learned from Tupu, the squirrel, in chapel. This week we have two guests who will be sharing with us on the theme of courage as they served in the military. All are welcome to join us at 1:10.
All school theme This year our all school theme is “Christian Character ~ The Other Fruits”. Each month we will have a character of the month that reinforces our all-school theme. For the month of September, it is COURAGE. The Bible verse to go along w/ the theme of Courage is listed at the top of today’s bulletin. This is the first required verse to be memorized by your student ( 3-year-olds through 8th graders) in order to earn the Scripture Memory Award at the end of the school year.
During the month of September, our teachers will be talking a lot about courage and our chapels will focus on this theme too. Again this year, if you witness someone being courageous, please submit that student’s name into the nomination box placed by the “tree” bulletin board. Nomination forms are in the little hanging basket beside the same bulletin board. Then each week at chapel, 2 boys and 2 girls’ names will be drawn out of those boxes and students will be honored for their displays of courage throughout the week. Parents, students, and teachers alike are free to nominate the names of students they see “living out” the monthly theme.
Grandparents Day In conjunction with Grandparents Day, our school also wants to honor our grandparents. Please see the two dates listed above for the two different age groups. We ask that every child have a grandparent or “adopted” grandparent present for the program because we don’t want anyone to feel left out. Additionally, I know of several grandpas and grandmas who would love to be adopted by one of our students. So, if your child does not have a grandparent living in town, please let me know and I’ll be happy to get your child connected. We will serve a dessert and have a program for our grandparents, so please help us with extending invitations now.
KVCS Contact information All manner of information is posted on our website on a weekly basis, including this bulletin. www.kvcs.info Check it regularly! Also, our school e-mail address is kvcs@kvcs.info
Thank you, parents Thank you, parents, for your attention to the detailed information that was given to you at parent orientations. I can see that school is running very smoothly because of your willingness to help out with these details. For those of you who were not at parent orientation, we need you help too.
1. Morning procedures—We ask that students do not arrive at school until 8:15, if at all possible. Teachers are in staff devotions until 8:15. However, if you need to bring your child earlier, they must sit on the orange bench in the hallway. There is no adult supervision until 8:05, at which time a teacher will leave devotions and take students to the gym for some free time and opening exercises. When 1-8th grade students arrive at school, they should go directly to the gym. Do not go to the classroom, do not go to your locker, etc. If you child needs to talk to their teacher, they may ask the teacher in the gym for permission to go talk to their child’s teacher and permission will be granted after the teachers are out of devotions. Opening exercises are not a required part of the school day. School officially begins at 8:30 a.m. so your child will be counted tardy if they are not in their classroom by that time.
2. Dismissal procedures—All students are asked to leave the school through the front doors…not any of the back doors because there is no supervision. We cannot keep track of students and keep them safe if they are exiting through any door they want too. Also, the gym is off limits after school until 3:30 p.m. If you need your child to be at school past 3:30, the gym is a safe place for them to hang out. But, please be advised there is no supervision even after 3:30. Also, students in the gym are responsible to make sure balls are put away and lights are turned off BEFORE they leave. Many evenings our gym is rented to different organizations and groups in our community and we need to leave the gym in tip top shape.
3. Hallways—Our hallways are a great place to visit with friends and other parents, however, we do expect students to remember their manners. So if you see a child running, yelling, walking between two adults who are visiting, etc. please feel free to remind them of their manners and proper hallway conduct. I welcome your help, parents.
PE Something very helpful on these hot fall days is for your child to bring a water bottle to PE. Also, it is imperative that they wear proper shoes. The PE schedule is as follows:

1:00-2:00 3rd, 4th, 5th grade

2;15-2:45 2nd grade
Thursdays 12:30-1:00 2nd grade

2:00-3:00 6th, 7th, 8th grade
$100,000 What does $100,000 of groceries do for KVCS? It earns $5000 for our school! Wow, that is how much Rosauers Scrip was used last school year and because of it, we were able to apply $5000 extra toward paying down our new addition building loan. Don’t forget to get back into the groove of purchasing your groceries and prescriptions at Rosauers with SCRIP. Your faithfulness truly does make a difference for our school!
This Thursday, September 2 is a perfect time to get back into the groove because there is a CEREAL SALE. Get your SCRIP today!
Computer Lab Our computer lab will be open after school on Thursdays for any student who would like extra time in the lab. Mr. Stine will be monitoring the lab from 3:30-4:30. Please be on time to pick up your child if you allow them to stay for this privilege. The lab will be open this Thursday, Sept. 2.
Ice Cream As a fun perk, ice cream will be sold after school on Thursdays for .50 cents.
Service Hours I have two bean bags that need to have their outer shells washed. Is anyone willing to take them home, empty the stuffing out, wash the shell, and then restuff?
BOX TOPS There are collection cans on our information table for the Campbells labels and box tops that you saved over the summer. Don’t forget, we just need the UPC symbol off Cambpell’s labels. Also, clip those Box Tops for Education because .10 cents per label adds up quite fast!
KVCS Screenings On Wed., Sept. 15, the Lincoln County Health Nurse will be at our school to do a vision screening of all students 4-year-old up through 8th grade. She will also do a scoliosis check for the upper grades. This is a service our school provides for all of our students and you will get a report home that day.
Child Find We strongly encourage all our preschool parents to take advantage of this free preschool screening opportunity offered for ages 0 to 5 years old at Plummer Center (Head Start) on September 14, 15, 16. The screening serves as a great source of information for you, the parent, and for your child’s teacher, as to age appropriate development for cognitive skills, fine and gross motor skills, speech, language, hearing and vision. Delays can be identified and avenues for helping your child overcome those delays can be discussed. Your proactive involvement as parents at this age can reap great benefits for your child’s success in school. Also, Child Find is for all children, not just those with whom you have concerns. Do you have questions? Talk to your KVCS teacher or Mrs. Boulware.
You do need to make an appointment by calling 293-2700.
Runnerfell Nordicfest is just around the corner, Sept. 10-12. Runnerfell is a FREE fun run for youth ages 3-16 which begins at 4:15 at Libby Middle School on Friday, Sept. 10. If you want a t-shirt, it costs $5. All students must be registered by Sept. 8. Registration forms are on our information table and can be returned to the KVCS office by 3:30 p.m. Sept. 8. No late registrations will be accepted
Taekwondo Classes New classes begin Tuesday, Sept. 7 at McGrade Center. There is a class for juniors (age 6-12) and adults (ages 13+). See the flyer on our information bulletin board or call Dan Rose, 293-8337. They also have a website www.libbytkd.com
